During this coronavirus period, we have lost basically every sport and are searching for relief. That is where I, in my wanderings, came across a trend that is seemingly gaining momentum in the cyber world. It has even garnered an article on TIME's website: https://time.com/5803841/marble-racing-videos/
Yes: Marble racing.
So I had to check it out, and as has happened to a lot of people, I find it pretty cool. The games and races they do are created especially for marbles to race and compete which is very interesting in itself, but that is not the main reason that I think this has taken off. Quite honestly, it's the announcer of these events; Greg Woods.
He does something very great in his performance. He treats these marbles races seriously as if it is a major sports event, but not overtly seriously. There is a light quality to his voice which gives the impression that he still knows that he is commentating on marbles rolling around on a track (which can be hypnotising; I can attest to that because I had a big marble set I liked to play with when I was a kid).
I joked on Twitter that we have found the new voice of Monday Night Football. But in all honesty, he is probably best suited to be doing this. I hope he gets more attention as this crisis progresses and this viral sensation continues to grow.
